On the very 1st day I “started” this journey I went for a bike ride on my Dad’s bike. I hadn’t ridden since I was a kid, I was unsteady, scared of falling and my weight caused the tyres to be a bit flat.
A friend and her daughter wanted to go for a short walk, and I rode slowly along next to them. It took us about 20 minutes to walk what I now know is 500 meters. I know, because I walk that same space for the warm up to my run. I was so unfit.
On that ride home I had to go up a small hill and it nearly killed me. I remember getting home and my legs shaking and feeling like jelly. The next day most of my leg muscles ached!
Fitness has Improved!
Tonight was the first night since then that I jumped on that bike. I rode for 30 minutes and went just over 3kms. I’m really pleased with my improved fitness looking back to that 1st day.
Even better, the bike riding didn’t put any pressure on my injured calf muscle and the feeling of wind and speed is like an inspiring thrust of freedom. At times I really did feel invincible.
So today I bought a bike helmet to ride my dad’s bike.
Tomorrow I’m going to buy a bike.
