I suffer greatly from a lack of clarity, and so this post is to help me take stock of where I am in my healthfulness journey, and where I can see some room for improvement.
What I’m proud of myself for
Eating breakfast everyday
This has been the biggest change I’ve made in 2020. Everyday I take the time to have breakfast.
I usually have a smoothie, and they are about 500 calories.
I am always using a variety of fresh, local in season fruit, which is in abundance here in the tropics. I’ve even started to experiment with green smoothies; adding cucumber and spinach.
The morning is a time where I feel it’s quite easy to pay attention to fibre and calcium, and so I add a good whack of chia seeds for the fibre component, and I’ve researched the highest calcium milk product I can readily buy, which is buttermilk, and typically add about 300ml.
A preculiar quirk of my morning smoothie is that I need to have ice readily available. I don’t like warmer smoothies – even in the thick of winter I like them ice cold.
I look forward to having this for breakfast, and it’s definitely the highlight of the morning.
Tracking and measuring
Over the past couple of months I’ve been using an app to track my eating. I use MyNetDiary. I like the app, and I love to see how I’m going on any particular day.
The app is set up for a daily calorie intake to lose weight.
High Quality Nutrition
My diet consists of a lot of fruit and vegetables, so I do feel like I am doing well in this regard.
I don’t eat a lot of meat, and when I do it’s lean meat. I don’t like the mouth feel of animal fat, and so I avoid it.
Meal Prep
To avoid having take away food for lunch during the week I generally make large portions of a couple of dishes on the weekend.
They tend to be vegetable-focussed foods that can be reheated in the microwave at work.
What I could improve upon
Exercise and movement
I spend a lot of my life on my bum. Working in an office, and do a lot of things on the computer at home. I need to make a concerted effort to do some good cardio exercise, and also incorporate more movement just into my everyday life.
