TBL Reality Check

The Biggest Loser started this in Australia. While the show has some inspiring moments, you really do need to watch a lot of repetitive segments to get to the gems, and if it continues this way I don’t think I’ll watch it through the entire season.

I have avoided every season of The Biggest Loser because I would have needed to face me own issues which I was expertly avoiding. Many of the contestants have also avoided their weight issues in a similar manner.

There’s a great opening scene where contestants need to jump off a 10m cliff into a ravine representing the beginning of their new life and the end of their own.

I’ve Already Jumped

The emotional turmoil the contestants face in the reality-check style early episodes was enlightening for a few reasons.

First, I was surprised to see that many of the issues the contestants are having I’ve already moved way past, especially issues related to confidence and self-worth. I actually sat back and thought so silly it is that I would have ever believed that I wasn’t worthy of love because of my weight.

Second, it gave me a jolt of reality check to think about my own weight loss purpose. I haven’t ‘come out’ to my friends, colleagues or family that I’m actively trying to lose weight. Some have noticed me tracking my food intake, and so I’ve told people I’m trying to nail a food sensitivity, or I’m trying to make sure I get enough fibre and calcium.

Maybe there’s some greatness in honesty that I need to yet discover. There’ll be tears though.
